Calling All Instrumentalists! Bring-your-instrument-to-church day is Sunday, August 29. Following worship, we will gather for a brief meeting and first rehearsal of the Spirit of Hope Praise Band directed by Paul David Stanko! Everyone is welcome. Come learn more about the plan for this group and dust off that old horn or stringed friend, and we'll see you after worship on the 29th!

Spirit of Hope Ministry Trust Fund provides a source of special funds for worthy programs and projects within the church and our community. The funds in the account are separate from the church operating budget and not available to use for the operating budget. The Ministry Trust Fund is managed by a Board of Advisors, by the following current members: Steve Gunn, John Turrittin, Lisa Schroeder, Buzz Nelson, Ann Rest, and Eric Forsberg. The Board makes grants for worthy programs and projects based upon applications. Typically the grants have been between $500 and $1,000. Applications are available from the church office. The Board will consider applications at its next meeting on August 24. If you have questions about the fund or the application process, contact one of the Board members.

The Early Sunday service is in the Chapel, at 9:00 a.m. during the summer through September 12.

Flower Sign Up Remember a birthday, anniversary, or other occasion by signing up to purchase the altar flowers on a special Sunday. The cost remains only $25. Sign up today on the bulletin board flower chart!

Our Community

Sunshine Valley Child Care is taking applications for their fall program for children ages 16 months to 5 years old. For more information, visit their Web site and contact Diane or Sharon at 763 545 6906.

PRISM has asked the church partners to contribute specific items throughout the year for the food shelf. They have asked Spirit of Hope to emphasize toothpaste and macaroni & cheese for August.

You can help PRISM financially by 1. Place a check in the offering plate designated to PRISM. 2. Contribute online to PRISM via GiveMN.org. Thank you.

Backpacks and School Supplies needed Each year PRISM gives to the needy children in the community. If you wish to contribute, bring your gifts to the church by Today. A list of supplies that are needed will be in the lower lobby. PRISM also needs volunteers to help organize the supplies on August 20 and distribute the supplies on August 21. PRISM donations for the month of July:
Food, 126 pounds; Clothing, 20 pounds; Hygiene, 77 pounds.

Dinner at the Fair. The congregation of Hamline UMC invites you to visit their Dining Hall when you go to the Minnesota Sate Fair this year for great food— breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Bring a church bulletin and receive $3 off the dinner special. One “special” per bulletin, please.

Agnus Day

Each week, Rick and Ted (Rick’s the one with the dark nose and the cup of coffee) talk after church. Rick is Ted’s mentor. Their conversation is usually inspired by the day’s Gospel reading from the Common Lectionary. The comic strip always makes a point and usually gets a laugh. In doing so, the comic strip brings another means of contact with the Gospel for the day. Often that which makes us laugh, makes us remember.
